While academics is just one thing to consider in choosing a school, St. Matthew is proud of its consistently high achievement in academics. From the ITBS (Iowa) testing, used nationally with most Catholic and many private schools, we find that we are typically in the top 10% of schools nationally and our students are scoring well above grade level on average.
ITBS testing starts in the third grade and we supplement this testing with others to better assess our students needs and prepare our curriculum and staff to support their needs.

This chart shows that our graduates from eighth grade over the last five years are ready for high school. The grade equivalence levels on average are much higher than average, with some subjects averaging beyond 12th grade.
These next two charts demonstrate the academic achievement level of our current classes nationally. As you can see some of our classes are scoring in the top 5% nationally on the composite. The next chart shows more detail by subject matter for each of these current classrooms rather than just the composite numbers.

We are proud our students, teachers, staff, parents and community which all help play a role in the academic progress of our students. If you have any questions on the ITBS testing, feel free to talk with our Principal, Ms. Karen Herlihy.
