We started with a brief overview of Ms. Brett's life and how she came to be a children's illustrator. She has written over 33 books, and more than 7 million have been distributed. (One student asked if that was the number of books we have in our library!)
Today we read Wild Christmas Reindeer. Students were given two purposes for reading before I began to read aloud: notice the illustrations and notice how the main character changes as the story progresses. Many students were able to articulate some interesting and meaningful responses.
I'm looking forward to sharing more of Jan Brett's books with the children.
