"Last year, a book impacted my life, my library program, and found its way into so many conversations with students, teachers, and librarians. “Expect the Miraculous” came to be our mantra in the Barrow Media Center thanks to Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo. It was all thanks to p. 130-131."
This phrase Expect the Miraculous deeply resonated with me. A miracle is defined as "a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency." My life has been filled with miracles, and my hope is that the coming school year will be a time brimming with wonder!.
But how to get there? I've identified some goals (thank you, Andy P., for the guidance) that I hope will bring about the miraculous in our school and its library. These goals are based on my professional reading, my experiences, and my dreams.
- to provide a welcoming environment that encourages and empowers students, teachers and our community of parents to wonder, learn, dream, experiment, muck about/tinker and share
- to provide opportunities for collaboration - within the classroom, school, and globally
- to continue to support and to encourage reading.
Every school year provides us with a new beginning. I look forward to one permeated with miracles of all kinds!
I can't wait to talk to you about the books you've read this summer.
See you soon!
