Dear School Families, Parishioners, and Teachers,
On December 6th from 11am to 2pm at the St Matthew Community Center, we will
continue with the energy and enthusiasm that was established at our summer Town Hall
meetings to get your input on how to help St. Matthew School continue to thrive. A
newly-formed planning team—called the Futuring Committee established to prepare a
three-year strategic plan, an expert planning consultant and YOU will help us plan St.
Lunch will be provided!
Professional Planner/Facilitator Helps Us with Path Forward
John Reid, a planner/facilitator who has helped take Catholic schools across the country
to the next level, will lead us in a St. Matthew School Summit following the World Cafe
format (a fun, interactive, small-group way to exchange ideas). The intention is to help
us plan the next three years and how we are going to make St. Matthew School bigger
and better than ever.
We want your ideas on the goals we’ve identified and promise that what you share will
be taken seriously as we join together with all who care about our school. This exciting
new journey in St. Matthew's history will result in a new plan by Catholic Schools Week
in late January 2015.
Free Childcare in ESS for Participating Parents
Daycare will be provided in ESS and, as a bonus, it will be extended free until 5pm to
World Cafe-attending parents. (Go Christmas shopping, enjoy an afternoon out with your
spouse, relax with a cup of tea and good book…The possibilities are endless.)
We will share more details in your student's Thursday packet but, for now, please plan to
attend December 6 to share your input, insights and ideas on the exciting improvements
our community will undergo in the next three years.

CHESS CLASS QUESTIONS TO: firstname.lastname@example.org
The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become habits ready on all occasions; for life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with, and in which there is a vast variety of good and ill events, that are, in some degree, the effect of prudence, or the want of it. By playing at Chess then, we may learn:
1st, Foresight, which looks a little into futurity, and considers the consequences that may attend an action ... 2nd, Circumspection, which surveys the whole Chess-board, or scene of action: - the relation of the several
Pieces, and their situations; ...
3rd, Caution, not to make our moves too hastily.
