Dear St. Matthew Families,
Welcome back! What a blessing it is to begin the 2017-18 school year.
We have been under construction this summer. We are so excited to show off our finished bathrooms! Be sure to take a peek after dropping off your children the first day of school.
I’m happy to share that we have a new librarian, Mrs. Deb Werner. Mrs. Werner comes to St. Matthew from Our Lady of the Lake school where she will be a shared teacher between our two schools. Mrs. Werner has a true joy for reading, loves book talks, and sharing multiple genres with students. She will be teaching at St. Matthew on Thursdays and Fridays.
New this year, music for grades 5-8 will be a choice between band (taught by Mr. Glennie from BBHS) and international music (taught by Mrs. Rogel). Band will be offered opposite music class during the school day. This will enable students to expand their options with after school choices like honor choir, computer programming, and study hall. Extra-curricular choir options will include a beginning choir for grades 2-4 and an honor choir for grades 5-8. The honor choir will be singing at occasional Sunday Masses and also at other special events.
Our enrollment stays strong at 182 students with 9 in Pre-K. Along with our new bathrooms, we have lightened up the school hallway with new paint, upgraded our drinking fountains with water bottle fillers (thanks Parent Club), added a new seating area in the library (thanks Campbell’s Labels for Education), and improved our playground area with fence screening (thank you Kabalin family). Our field is nice and green ready for soccer season.
Please join us Tuesday, August 29 for our Ice Cream Social at 6pm and Kindergarten/New Parent Meetings at 7pm, then of course, the first day of school on Thursday, August 31. You will learn all about what’s happening in your individual classrooms on Curriculum Night, which will be the evenings of Sept. 12 for elementary and Sept. 19 for middle school.
Thank you for your support of St. Matthew School. We look forward to a fabulous school year. We pray for all our children, families, and faculty so that each person receives blessings of love and faith for a new year.
