Dear St. Matthew Families,
Happy Spring! Exciting things are happening at St. Matthew School.
Our play field has been renovated and looks amazing. We hired a landscape company to aerate, reseed, level, and fertilize. This company will also care for the field over the year. As one of the few private schools in the city with a play field of this size, we are happy to showcase such a wonderful feature for our students to enjoy.
Our boys and girls bathroom remodel project will begin the day after school is dismissed for the summer. We have hired parishioner owned, The Williams Company, to complete this renovation. This is something students can look forward to when they return, as our bathrooms are 55 years old. Thanks to all of you who contributed to this effort.
St. Matthew celebrated the confirmation of 16 high school students this month and will soon celebrate the First Holy Communion of 15 of our second graders. This is such a special moment in these children’s lives, one they will fondly remember always.
We will have a major staffing change for next year. Our beloved Librarian, Nancy Edwards will be stepping out of her library role and working two days a week as a Learning Support Specialist. This means she will work with individual or small groups of students on reading, language, and writing. She will also coordinate school-wide assessments and student tutoring services. The school will look to hire a part-time library-technology teacher to fill our needs.
As I look to the end of another wonderful year, I see all the great things we have accomplished and what is yet to come. St. Matthew School is a joy-filled school and your children are our greatest blessing.
Thank you and God Bless,
Karen J. Herlihy, Principal
